Vegetalist Journeys

The Vegetalist Journeys at LIS are ritualistic spiritual practices, originating from ancient traditional knowledge from the upper Peruvian Amazon.

They consist of communion and taking of Master plants, led by our Vegetalist Master, facilitators and supported by a careful multidisciplinary team, listening attentively, helping with the elaboration and integration of what is experienced.

We personally accompany each participant throughout their entire journey.

An invitation to get in touch with an innovative approach to an alliance between ancestral knowledge and contemporary knowledge – with the potential to open up new ways of relating to the world and to ourselves.

The Journeys take place in cozy cabins in the middle of the Atlantic Forest in the city of Areal, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro. An easily accessible location, 2 hours away from the capital, with the security and infrastructure of a city around it.

Our medical support team is present at all ceremonies at LIS.

Welcome to a break and allow yourself to experience a profound transformation.

Vegetalist Rituals and Practices present in the Journeys at LIS

Purge

Purge

The first step of the Vegetalist Journeys at LIS, purging promotes physical, psychic and spiritual cleansing, opening the way for our communication with plants and their teachings.

In the knowledge of traditional Vegetalist medicine, the purging process is considered an important preparation for the Vegetalist Journeys. It acts on both the physical, emotional and spiritual layers, offering detoxification, cleansing, protection and energetic and spiritual connection.

The purge allows for greater depth in the internal work and the performance of the master plants in the ceremonies that follow it.

At LIS, the purge is carried out in the Ritualistic Space, with a maximum of 18 participants, in a ceremony led by the Vegetalist Master and facilitators.

Purging may cause nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea.

However, it is an extremely safe process and uses adequate amounts of purgative master plants.

Our medical support team will be present at all purging ceremonies.

Ayahuasca ceremony

Ayahuasca ceremony

Ayahuasca is an entheogenic beverage, with a “psychoactive effect”, considered by Peruvian vegetalistas as a “sacred beverage” – due to the understanding that it is endowed with a spirit with which we can relate and learn. It is prepared by cooking two master plants: the Psychotria viridis shrub and the Banisteriopsis caapi vine.

The use of Ayahuasca, at the LIS Center, occurs in the way traditionally practiced by the people of the upper Peruvian Amazon.

Its ingestion is carried out in a ritualistic manner in collective night ceremonies with up to 18 participants, led by Vegetalist Master and facilitators, based on learning and initiations that authorize and support their conduct, thus maximizing the safety and depth of the ritual.

During the Journeys at LIS, participation in the ceremony is not mandatory, it depends on the assessment of the multidisciplinary team with the Vegetalist Master and the participant’s willingness.

For those who do not want or cannot participate in the ceremony, an integrative practice, such as circular breathing, may be offered.

All LIS ceremonies are attended by the medical support team.

To participate in the Ayahuasca ceremonies, prior participation in the purging ritual is necessary.

Master plants dieta

Master plants Dieta

For the traditional peoples of the upper Peruvian Amazon, the ritualistic intake of master plants in Dieta is the main way of accessing spiritual knowledge, which can provide profound transformations.

One of the conditions for participating in a Vegetalist Journey at LIS, which includes the ritualistic intake of master plants in Dieta, is to follow the recommendations (pre and post Dieta) based on the precepts of the tradition.

These recommendations include dietary, sexual and medication restrictions, among others, to ensure that the experience is as safe as possible, optimizing the potential of working with the master plants.

Once these precepts have been followed and based on preliminary listening with our multidisciplinary team in dialogue with the Vegetalist Master, each person is assigned a specific master plant, according to the emotional and spiritual aspect that they intend to work on in that particular moment.

This plant will be ingested during the 6-day retreat period, throughout the 9 days of the Vegetalist Journey, when the participant remains in isolation in their hut, with daily visits by the Vegetalist Master and the facilitators.

Despite being master plants, all plants taken in the Dieta do not have “psychoactive effects”, as the only entheogenic plant present in the Vegetalist Journeys at LIS is Ayahuasca, taken specifically in a ritualistic ceremony.

Food during the retreat period consists of boiled potatoes and rice, without the addition of any type of condiments. Twice a day, the Vegetalist Master visits the participant in their hut, serving each person the designated master plant.

During this period of retreat and Dieta, the master plant will work on psycho-emotional and spiritual aspects, being able to bring to light dreams, insights, emotional catharsis and unconscious contents that are often previously unknown to the person themselves.

It is a very fertile period of reframing your own issues, promoting new ways of looking at yourself and the world. For the assimilation, elaboration and integration of these emerging contents, participants rely on the specialized listening of psychologists from the multidisciplinary support team.
